A New Country, Island, and Vibe! Waste and Plastic in Bali 🇮🇩

It’s already been 7 days since I landed on this island called Bali. It’s been interesting, to say the least. It’s interesting to see what all the hype is about. What Bali means for so many. What we see in the pictures and what we see once we arrive.
It got me thinking: how many times have I gone somewhere expecting the most amazing beach, and then it smelled funny, had trash everywhere, and I really did not feel inspired to get into the water. Weirdly everybody around seems to be in a bubble, not seeing any of the trash. That’s what I experienced when we reached the first beach around Denpasar.
It reminded me of the issues with plastic. How important it is to not just think about zero waste. And it also brings up the question if the people who spend their time in those beach hotels actually enjoy their vacation 🙈 with plastic right in front.
I’m here for many more weeks, and I will report back what else Bali has to offer. There are a couple locations that I really want to see and hikes I’d love to explore. I’ll keep you posted.
Enjoy the new week, go out, explore, and maybe decline the next plastic straw you are offered (or carry a bag, so you don’t need the plastic bag in the next store).
Cheers, and let’s dive into the stuff I watched, published, am listening to, and do… enjoy.
What I am watching: Aubrey Marcus Interview | The Tim Ferriss Show
Tim Ferriss has done well over 300 episodes of his podcast by now. But this episode was one that I had to listen to on the spot (I also love that he started doing more video episodes recently). This episode is full of goodies about spirituality, alternative relationships, entrepreneurship, as well as holistic health philosophy. It’s a pretty crazy ride and a really nice conversation.

What I am doing: Publishing my Photography on Unsplash
I have always been an advocate for the Creative Commons BY-NC license for photography. But I still felt hesitant about the idea to open that up for commercial and non-attributed use. It didn’t feel right. Now I am using Unsplash and similar other platforms more often and just thought that I would love to contribute to those as well.
I am planning to upload many of my better Instagram photos on there over the coming weeks and help grow the base of beautiful, free photos that Unsplash provides.
Another good reason to upload your work there? If you are a photographer, you might get hired for the style you shared for free. I’ve read a couple articles of artists who had that happen, and it’s an incredible way to get your work noticed.
What I published: There Are Always New People & a new Podcast Episode
This past week I published one new episode of my new podcast. It’s inspired by the article “Sometimes Not the Boss” which I released a couple weeks ago and goes into a little more detail about my thoughts around it.
Podcast: Ep. 2 / Sometimes Not the Boss [9 min audio]
Additionally, I just published “There Are Always New People”. An article discussing the idea that everything has been said before and there is no point in sharing your view, opinion, or knowledge. There is! And this article discusses why.

What I am listening: EMINEM BEST OF Playlist
Oh wow, it’s been a while since I last listened to Eminem. But it brought me right back to my teenage years. This is a pretty hard contrast to Ludovico Einaudi - who I have been pretty much listened to exclusively lately.
