Books — Read
There are so many good books out there. In this list, I collect some of the most influential books that I have read or listened. It’s powerful stuff and food for thought.
Also, reading is the easiest way to surround yourself with incredible mentors!
I initially already loved the title. Then I read it. And I would call it a must-read. So much so that I have a bracelet which has the title engraved.
Learning from Navy SEALS. I didn't know that this would actually be something I'd ever read. But after doing so it's absolutely worth it. The book is intense. It takes you into the war zone of Ramadi, Iraq. But it shows the principles perfectly. With this book, I learned so much about owner- and leadership.
Are you giving enough? In this economy, giving is the new marketing. Provide services, ideas, help, kindness. And at some later point, you can - without shame - ask for something. This is a sales bible.
A transformative book. In Germany, we talk about the time of the concentration camps a lot in history class, so much so that I didn't touch any materials about it since. This book was the first time looking into the matter as an adult and I have to say it is a fascinating perspective that Viktor Frankl shares here. Additionally the logotherapy and theory about how every life can have meaning and if only the meaning to survive the current suffering to then enjoy the future wellbeing.
Not a book to read but to listen to. Jocko is also the author of "Extreme Ownership", but with this, he took a completely different approach. Struggling with Procrastination? You want to workout more? You'd like to get up early? He has an audio motivation track for you. With his strong voice, he gets me. I immediately feel a rush of motivation running down my spine.
The book that changed my outlook on life almost 10 years ago when I read it first. It's powerful. It's life-changing. I would recommend it again and again.
To incorporate stoicism into my daily routine, I got this for my kindle and inaudible. A daily meditation to think about. Great to keep me on track and learning, every day.
A book that made the stoic philosophy more understandable. Since then I have read a couple of the tougher books (Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Letters by a Stoic, and so on). But this is the starting point if you'd like to learn more about stoicism.
The longer I am in business by myself the more important the content of this book becomes. Understanding that we build systems and that we are part of those systems. The important part, however: Are you going to be part of that system at all times? Or are you building the system to run on its own? This book showed me the insights to understand how we can take ourselves out of the equation, empower others, and live a freer life. Also, a reference to "Ego is the Enemy": are you really so important that everything would implode if you were not there?
Writers' block? Not moving forward on your project? This is the read you have to go through. Art is war - with yourself. Go forth!
Learning from the masters of their field. Curated by Timothy Ferriss this is one of the best collections I have read recently.
